Their food is run of the mill American Chinese. Bleh. You can get a pretty good, stiff drink at a reasonable price in the bar though!

We ate at the Hong Kong for the first time and found the food very enjoyable. We ordered the Chinese Dinner for two and there was a huge amount and we had to take half of it home. It was all very good and we would certainly go back. The service was also good.

My husband and I went for Mother's day dinner, bad mistake! His sizzling platter was alright, but just alright. Now mine, first it was cold and when they brought it back I saw there was barely any meat! It was half a head of broccoli!! We will never go back! Horrific!

This place has a five star rating in my book for the worst customer service. Recently they made us the wrong order and would not fix it. I have no idea how a business can stay in business with practices like that.

This place is horrible even by GP standards. I only went here because a friend of mine wanted to eat here. The regulars here must be oblivious to all the cheapskate tactics this restaurant has. Like charging you for tea and not giving it to you because you didn't remind them to bring it, that's highly unethical. How about charging extra for "white meat" and getting bland chicken full of rib meat in every piece. The noodles were dry and tasted like re-fried Top Ramen. Our server was unattentive and seemed miserable. When brought to the attention of management, they claimed it was my fault for not reminding them to bring my drink. Right, how about admitting to your mistakes? I figured I wasn't going to get far arguing with someone who doesn't understand customer service or Engrish. I will never return and be sure to share my experience.

I have tried this place twice now and the food has always been good never have ordered from the American side of the menu so no commit there. The service was a little slow however the wait staff were polite.

Too darn close to the motel so I can't help myself after a long motorcycle day on the road. Never got sick, but with my stomach, it could be a gamble! Wife refuses to eat here so I only go when I'm solo. Maybe I'll try the highly rated burger next time and avoid the greasy noodles and famous "pink sauce".

Listen up GP: You're not going to find authentic Chinese food in your area, anywhere, ever, period. You live in GRANTS PASS. You live in the whitest part of the whitest state in the Northwest. Get over it. You want monster truck rallies and greased pig chases? You're in the right place. You want authentic Asian cuisine? You're need to take a little road trip down to SF to satisfy that craving. It's like a 6-hour drive or a 45-minute flight. You can totally do it! Now that we've got that out of the way, on to the review. This is wholly, unabashedly Americanized Chinese food. Emphasis on the American. As long as you go in knowing this, you will have a good time. There is nothing inherently wrong with greasy-crunchy-yummy-not-so-spicy fried rice, or thoroughly fried Mar Far chicken with magic "pink sauce" (the secret ingredient is mayonnaise, shhh!), or piles upon piles of greasy egg rolls (the more grease the better, people! roll in it!) and pillowy crab puffs. Come here when you aren't counting your calories, expecting gourmet flair or looking for authentic chicken's-feet entrees. Come here with your GP-native grandparents or your conservative boss who thinks she's being edgy by trying Chinese food. Whatever you do, though, if you come here expecting anything but greasy down-home Americanized cooking, you're gonna have a bad time. If, for some reason, you're a person who lives in Grants Pass and expects a Michelin-star type dining experience (really, though, have you considered moving? I hate to break it to you, but it's probably not going to happen for you in this lifetime.), this is not the place for you. For the rest of you: Adjust your expectations and you'll like it.

I know this place gets really bad reviews, but I really loved it. I'm sorry. Maybe my expectations were really, really low. Maybe I realize that a Chinese food place in frackin Grants Pass, Oregon is prrrooobably not going to be authentic. And maybe I was totally ok with that. Whatever the reason, this place rocked. The sheerly insane amount of food brought to us for the almost crazy low price was mind-boggling. If this were 2005, I'd have thought we were being Punk'd. It was awesome. Absolutely everything was scrumptious and absolutely nothing was authentic. But who the heck cares? Greasy egg rolls, greasy fried rice, and greasier, tastier everything is what you'll find here. The awesome service also really helps me love this place. So if you're realistic about your location and place in life at this very moment, really want some yummy, greasy Chinese-American food, and don't have a lot of cash/credit (and happen to be in Grants Pass?), go here. Just do it. Really.

We bought the Hong Kong special to go. We received one tiny box of rice..flavorless and grainy, one small box of veggies that were made from Ramen type noodles with a few pitiful celery chunks and veggies in it...again almost flavorless. The shrimp was of decent portion, but had a stink to them and I took one bite and refused to eat it..just nasty and gamey. The sesame pork had no flavor either. Their bbq pork was tender and good as was the spring roll. The appetizers were the only thing tasteful. Not eating here again. Only came here because our usual Chinese food choice was closed for vacation.

First off the hostest just threw our menues on the table and just walked away. The waitress came like a minute later and asked if we were ready, we ordered drinks (they don't offer flavors for their iced teas). Then we ordered, I've never been told no so many times. I asked for vegetable fried rice instead of pork fried rice, got told no. Then I asked for orange chicken in replacement of mar far chicken and got told no she gave me sweet and sour instead. Both my dad and brother got told no on two substitutions they tried. I didn't recieve any BBQ chicken that was supposed to come with my meal. We recieved our meal and they did not clean my shrimp. The rest of the food was okay, I'd had better here before. Then as we were eating our waitress started to sweep the carpet right next to us and stirred up so much dust and dirt we stopped eating. I have to say this was my to go place in Grants Pass but I will definitely not be coming back. Instesd I'll go to A Taste of China down the street. I'm very disappointed with this visit.

I have gotten take out here a few times and have never had an issue with it. I usually get chow mein with long cooked noodles. I always order it as Chow Mein and that's what I always get , Is with the cooked noodles. Well we decided to actually go sit in and eat yesterday. That was a big mistake, I had a salad with my meal, I'm pretty sure this salad was bagged from Walmart. It was all iceberg lettuce, with two little shreds of carrot. There was nothing else in it, Just iceberg. I haven't been to a place in a long time where I couldn't get a dark green salad. Anyways, My kids ordered rootbeer, which was pretty watered down, The egg rolls were disgusting, the chow mein was disgusting and I wasn't really impressed with the rice either. I hardly touched any of my food except for the sweet and sour chicken. That was the only thing that actually tasted how I use to get it. Now on to the service, the waitress was nice, But, she really needed to quit trying to strike up conversations with us. I swear we couldn't get her to shut up. Then, the girl going around picking up people plates, took a plate right out of an older ladies hands as she was trying to put her food in a box. Then she came over to us, as we were clearly still eating trying to take our plates, But first she stood in front of our table for about a minute staring at us, then she said, Do you have plates for me? Seriously? These people need to cut the attitude and do their job. We were clearly still eating, why would she think to ask for our dishes? I will never go back here.

Changed review! Last time I ate there it was terrible. I now go for Thai instead. I dig the rice over the rainbow before four pm. That's all I can say for it. I don't eat anything else there.

I am only giving this place 3 stars because the service sucked last time we were in. Waitress forgot about us and lady busing tables had to get our drinks. We got our food, ate then had lady busing tables refill our drinks. Waited some more, still no waitress, sent kid to go swipe to go boxes from behind counter, no check either and forget trying to get icecream that comes with meal. Got up to cashier and she asked if we had our check, said nope can't find our waitress. Miraculously she pops out of kitchen apologizing even though we hadn't seen her for an hour. Left no tip and got icecream to go. Usually service is great, not that night.

This is the WORST Chinese food I have ever had, let alone the worst restaurant food I've ever had. $14 for a pick-up of crab puffs and chicken chow mein. The crab puffs were dry and tasteless and the chow mein was a green mush with occasional chicken and no noodles. I had to throw away all of it, as it was inedible.

The food is pretty good given the asian cuisine options in town. The kung pow chicken, Mongolian beef, and pork fried rice are really good. Definitely large portions, enough to have two more meals. We don't like to eat at the restaurant cause it's not the nicest and is not that great of service either-some of the waitresses have been snotty, but it's enjoyable in our own home. :) I wish their prices were a bit more affordable- two entrees with rice usually runs about $35! Would give 4 stars if the service, atmosphere, and prices were better. Either way, when we're craving chinese, the food has always satisfied us. Definitely better than China hut...

I've been taking my family here for 15 years and we've always loved it! I go out of my way to stop in now as I pass by Grants Pass. I was really surprised it's getting such bad reviews. Ok so the place is old and could use a good thorough cleaning but we still love it. We always get a meal that includes the mar far Chicken, BBQ pork, rice and shrimp. Those have always been consistently tasty and well worth the detour off I-5!

This was the first restaurant we ever went to in Grants Pass and we have never been back. The Szechuan chicken was so horrible that I refused to pay...something I have never done before or since. Avoid this place.

First chinese place i tried when coming to grants pass. Big mistake. I can usually get through any meal and be polite, but this is the first time i ever refused to pay for food. I took a few bites and left. The worst was the noodle bowl, spaghetti, frozen veggies, with a nasty sauce, whatever they called it this was not chinese food. Haven't been back since and tell everyone i know to go elsewhere.

This was the worst restaurant I have ever eaten at! I ordered chicken chow mein no noodles just over cooked cabbage and veggies. My friend ordered Kung pao chicken, it was the same slop I got with a few peanuts thrown in. Run don't walk away from this place!!!! It really doesn't deserve any stars but they make you check at least one.

Stopped here for lunch on our way through Grants Pass The food was fresh, hot and not over cooked. The service was friendly and efficient and the place was really clean. We enjoyed our meal and would stop again.

Yep, it's a solid 1 star........other yelp reviews pretty much sum it up. My broccoli with chicken, and the won ton soup were 2 stars, but my wife's Kung Pao wasn't edible for her. The waitress offered her another dish, and when my wife decided that she really didn't want anything else, the waitress took her meal off the check, without any question. I give her 3 stars, I tipped her well, I feel sorry for someone who may truly need the income stuck working in this place.

This place deserves rightful recognition. Family owned and has been there a long, long time. The decor is old but so what..the food is made super fresh when ordered. No msg . Veggies are crisp and fresh and always consistant and of high quality. I would rather add my own sauce anyday....so they make sure you have any sauce you would like on the side or with take out--they include the tea bags and the sauces and the fortune cookies. I highly recommend you try them...for good, wholesome delicious food. They do not ever disappoint.

Took my partner here for lunch as I thought I had been there a couple of years ago when visiting Grants Pass, and remembered it being quite good. My memory is either failing, or this place has really gone downhill. We sat down and in seconds, I really wanted to just leave, but my other half wanted to try it. Mistake. The place was really dirty. We sat in the table section at the front, rather than at a booth. We both ordered the same thing....A combination plate of Sweet and Sour Chicken, Pork Fried Rice, and Chicken Chow Mein. Now for $7.95 I was not expecting a palate dazzling experience, but this was truly dreadful. Chicken was 80% breading and 20% bird. Sauce was the low end typical red goo, The deep fry smell of the chicken indicated the frying oil has been in their system way longer than it should have been. Chow mein was edible, but completely uninspired. Mostly celery and bean sprouts, with some crunch noodles underneath. Fried rice was ok, and filled with 2 centimeter sized pork pieces. Even the complimentary ice cream served at the end of the meal was damaged by being kept at several temperatures and was ice crystallized. In summation, a friendly staff was the high point. The dirty place and poor quality of cuisine was the big downer.

I would say the highlight of this restaurant are the cheap prices. As for taste, you get what you pay for. The food is bland and lacks any depth in flavors at all. We ordered a family dinner meal which was about $30 for five entrees; good price, but that's about it. The soup tasted like vegetable broth, the sweet and sour chicken was covered in a red jello-like goo, and the noodles and rice really only tasted good when you added soy sauce to them... Needless to say, I'm still looking for a good Chinese food place.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
